Guess what and where?

Here’s a photo. Can you name what and where?

Here are some clues.

It’s recent – within the last month.
It’s in Australia (taken by my sister on her perambulations)
It portrays something that doesn’t happen very often.

No prizes for the correct answer, just a pat on the back.

Next post will be the second part on writing a fantasy novel for beginners.

Guess what and where? — 8 Comments

  1. I’m guessing the birds gathering at the recent flooding of Lake Eyre. I’m very envious of your sister because that’s just where I would like to be only life has made it impossible. Bah.

  2. Ah – you are all far too good at this. They are pelicans on a mud island in Lake Eyre, seen from the air. For those non-ozzies, Lake Eyre has water in it every 10 or 20 years or so. Most of the time it is just an enormous inland salt pan, without a bird in sight.

In the mysterious way that birds have, when the water arrives, so do they – to feed and nest. The water on this occasion is coming from Queensland. Take a look at a map, and see just how far it has come, along rivers that are usually dry.

  3. What staggers me is that after all those devastating fires, Lake Eyre has filled this year. Must have been a lot of rain up north.
