  1. Withough them, though, we'd be in trouble. They often do the job of earthworms where those creatures don't exist!

  2. I'm no expert, but I believe the nest above the ground is more a way of heat control. Underneath is where the real activity lies — they are chewing up rotting wood and plant matter and aerating the soil and raising the young…

  3. I had no idea. I thought they just ate wood on houses etc. Never really thought about them much. I just assumed they lived in the mounds – I have seen anteaters and other animals getting into the mounds for a meal. I should look it all up.
