*Well, in Fantastic Planet since they opened shop in 2005….

This sf/f bookstore in my hometown (Perth, Australia) has just published a list of their top 100 bestsellers. And there is Heart of the Mirage at number 74. You can see the whole list here, but before you look, see if you can guess any of the top ten and let us know in the comments section! Two of the ten are Australian authors.

  1. I didn’t guess any of the top ten. In fact, I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t even recognise most of the titles on the list! :S

But congratulations on making it into the top 75! 🙂

  2. Well, the two Australians I’m not surprised you wouldn’t know. The other 8 – there’s a Jordan, a Martin, a Gaiman, a Pratchett – even a person on a rock has heard of those surely! *g*.

John Scalzi had been up for and won some awards and also writes one of the most popular sf blogs on the planet. And Naomi Novak – the only person with 2 books in the top ten, is a Brit writing about dragons. I wanted you to read her while you were here, then realised I’d lent the books to someone else.

Number 8 is a well-known SF writer, Space Opera, also a Brit.

  3. Oh yes, I’ve heard of more than half of the writers in the top ten … I just hadn’t guessed that they would be up there. 😀

I did also recognise quite a few of the other author names on the list, but very few of the book titles. I’m deplorably out of the loop. :

  4. I couldn’t have picked them out. I love the Temeraire books but then its dragons, innit. I like Peter Hamilton, Robert Jordan and George R.R. Martin. I was disappointed to see Mercedes Lackey so far down the list, I love her Valdemar books. Terry Pratchet is quite funny but two books was enuf. Elizabeth Moon is there with Paksenarrion which I enjoyed. I see the Narnia books are on the list too. Glad you made it, but if it were up to me I would have thought you would have sold more Glenda. A lot of my favourite authors there. Ru, you will have to get reading if you don’t know some of these people.
