When you lose the page number

Here’s my grandson contemplating the anguish of responsibility that goes with acknowledging the existential nature of Humankind.

Or maybe he is just looking at the Indian Ocean and wondering how he can cross that wall and get in all that lovely water…

And then there’s me, with loads of comments from my agent suggesting changes to The Song of the Shiver Barrens, each comment linked to the page of the manuscript.

Unfortunately, although I haven’t changed the actual text since I sent her a copy, my page numbering no longer matches that on her copy…

WAAAAAH!

  1. Maybe grandson is just enjoying the wonder of living without trying to analyse it. :o)

Numbers are a jinx to wordsmiths, they shape-shift on the page. Your agent should know that by now.

  2. If you were both using a word processing file…different printers will cause text to flow differently. ;-( ARGH!

(PDFs are an exception to this.)

  3. Oh, lord. I feel your pain, I really really do.

I guess all you can do is word search for a key word relating to each comment. What a drag!!!!!!!

    Hugs to you.

  4. Oh yeah, did you email the text as a document file to your agent, or send a printout? If push comes to shove, you could ask her to highlight the relevant bits in the document file (yes, I know there were a lot, but…) and email that back to you.

Hope you manage to get it sorted.
