Heart of the Mirage will be available at a bookstore near you in a few short days, if not right now. It is already available on amazon.co.uk here
For those of you in Capetown, there’s a bookstore called READER’S PARADISE which is having a two-month long “Fantasy Feast” for you over at 71A Kloof St. (My mouth is watering – I wish a bookseller here would do that…) You can buy Heart of the Mirage complete with a signed bookplate.
And if you do read it, please feel free to let me know what you thought (and remember, I shan’t blast you if you didn’t like the book!!). Or write review on Amazon…
Yesterday I went to a reading by some Malaysian authors and was impressed by the level of talent. Damn, but there are some good writers out there. And courageous ones too, who aren’t afraid to stand up and say: this is what I am and you can’t change it with your threats or your self-righteous religiosity…
How easy it is sometimes to control people with fear. You don’t actually have to do anything; a threat is enough.
I am reading “The Lizard Cage” by Karen Connelly, set in Myanmar. What a tour de force this book is, a portrait of the soaring of a human spirit within in prison in a nation built on fear, where they don’t just threaten, but construct an edifice of inhumanity to try to contain what can never be truly caged. Read it. A writer who can tell a tale of such horror and yet leave you feeling hopeful about mankind is a true artist.
I hope Mirage sells really well in both the UK and SA, Glenda!
The situation in Burma sickens me, too. It is supposed to be Buddhist country, for crying out loud! Nothing could be less Buddhist than that junta and its evil works and especially their treatment of Aung San Su Kyi, whose faith in action shines thorough everything she says and does.
It’s not religion that’s the problem: it’s our misuse of it:-(
Congratulations on The Mirage Makers trilogy. I wondered if it could be as good as The Isles of Glory and I wasn’t disappointed. I think I’m too old to wait until each book comes out. In future I’ll buy the books then wait until I have the set before reading. That way I might save myself a load of stress and nail biting. Congratulations. I’m looking forward to the next one. Mumsie
I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but why is it that I can’t find your books in any of the local bookstores here in Malaysia?
I’ve tried MPH 1-Utama, Kinokuniya at KLCC, and Borders at The Curve; no luck whatsoever.
Are your books available here in Malaysia? Or am I just looking at the wrong places? I’ve never read any of your books before, but I’m an avid (or rather, obsessive) reader. Found your site through Karen Miller’s online journal, by the way 🙂 Thanks.
Thanks Mumsie!
Hisham, Kinokuniya and MPH midvalley and Bangsar all had copies of the US edition of the Isles of Glory trilogy last year. They would probably get them in for you, at no extra cost, if you ordered them. The ISBN numbers are The Aware 0441012779; Gilfeather 0441013481; The Tainted 0441014194.
Havenstar is out of print.
The Heart of the Mirage, up until now, is only published in Australia, and here they refuse to buy Oz books (too expensive, they say). However, they will be getting the UK Orbit edition in – so look out for Heart of the Mirage within the next few weeks.
Good luck.
I bought a copy of The Tainted from Kinokuniya in KLCC, and possibly my copy of The Aware last year, too. The Mirage Makers books I actually ordered online from galaxy bookshop in Sydney – yes, I know that’s expensive when I live on the other side of the world, but Glenda’s books are worth it. :o)
At the time of writing this comment, the amazon.co.uk sales rank for the UK Heart of the Mirage has shot up from c275,000 to 62,496 and amazon only have five copies left in stock. Yay! Go Glenda!
When I got up this morning, it was at 11,000 something, Hrugaar…I am not sure I’ll believe those rankings until they settle down a bit.
It’s so exciting. Every time I see that cover I get all tingly. Can’t imagine what it does to you!!!
Also, don’t forget to tell your blog people about the minicon on the weekend!
Thanks for the info! Will definitely get my hands on them when I have the time 🙂 I’m looking forward to reading your books.
I hope they don’t disappoint…
