Was back at the immigration dept yesterday, for the third day and another 2 hour wait.
Good news: there was soap in the dispenser.
Bad news: they didn’t give me 5 years* but only one year extension. So we have to do the same thing all over again next year. My husband has to take a day off work. What a waste of everything – time and money and paper and working hours – all to keep an eye on this wife of a citizen who obviously (after 40 years here on and off) is a danger to national security. Or something. My file in the department must be a mile high. How many times have they collected a copy of our marriage certificate? How many copies do they have of a sworn statement that we make (and pay for) every year that yes, we were married? Don’t they have better things to do with their tax-payers money? I am fed up.
*They told me last year this was possible, so that is why I need got a spanking new Oz passport before it was due in order to accommodate a 5 year pass.
How very frustrating. Red tape, red tape, red tape. I sympathise.
I was thinking about this when I went to bed last night – can you not become a citizen or Malaysia. Like us, we became Canadian citizens after living here for 3 years.
Citizen? When hell freezes over – they don't even think I am worthy of PR!!
What would happen if they didn't award you immigrant status any more? Would Noramly move to Aussie?
The Aussie immigration dept isn't much better. My husband moved here from the Netherlands and it took them 3yrs, lots of paper work and standing in line, before they granted his residency. I do deeply sympathise with you Glenda and I guess 3yrs is nothing to what you've gone through. It's very draining, but I wish you all the best with it!
You're a gem, Glenda. Australia would be glad to have you back 🙂
That's a terrible tale of woe and bureaucratic idiocy, Glenda. My heart goes out to you – all that way, all that angst, all that *waiting*, for so little result.
The only thing more unbelievable than theology is bureaucracy.
Really, really thinking of Oz as a resident destination, to tell the truth…
Lol, Mythusmage…
