Also you never know the history of a wild animal.
That elephant may have witnessed a relative or friend being shot and equated the camera flash to the muzzle flash of a rifle.

I was watching a stunning piece of filming yesterday where you could have sworn the camera and its operator were beside a lioness and her cub. I suspect the modern camera can lead people astray too because they can misjudge how far they are from what they are photographing.
