I started my novel on 31 August 2001. Admittedly I have had a lot of life happening in between then and now, including three relocations, but I am at the final stages, just about ready to submit. Learn how to write a film script and a play. This may seem odd but screenplays require structure, planning and succintness that isn’t seen a lot in novel writing. It will also teach you all about subtext, gap-filling and many other things.

Plays will teach you how to construct a story via dialogue alone.

I know they’ve shaped how I write. I’m close to going back to start the editing process on my book.
