I once watched an elderly peacock attempt a similar dance, in a garden in Devonshire. He was shaking his stuff for the best part of half an hour. The peahens meanwhile pottered around pecking for food, just giving him the occasional weary glance and shaking their heads. So it was wonderful to see, but had something of a Muppet Show sketch about it.

Dear Glenda - You know so many people, do you know Denzee Clyne and/or Jim Frazier?<BR/>They were in a video made by Jamie Robertson called "Sounds Like Australia". Alas. No DVDs in those days. Inter alia, it showed the mating dance of the Victorian Rifle Bird, so beautiful I wept. I was reminded of the styleised movements of Japanese dancers. Sadly, it is only a matter of time before my video 'dies'. As in my video of "Gates of Hell' the colour is leeching away. Like you, one cal only cling to an experience which will probably never be repeated. I never miss your blog entriesand, even if you don't think much of your photos, i find they move into my "Pictures" folder and enlarge quite well. Best wishes, Audrey White
