'One way' street signs have no meaning whatsoever for motorcyclists. In Bandar Baru Bangi, you don't even have to have a licence to ride a motorbike. Hell, you don't even have to be big enough to see over the handlebars - and you can take your little sister standing up in front of you and don't forget little bro - he can hang on behind. You've seen Dad do it, so why can't you, too? Even though you are only twelve. And Dad would never dream of wearing his crash helmet when he goes to the mosque on Fridays. Someone might pinch it while he's praying.
Besides, a helmet is a pest when there's a songkok or some other supposedly Islamic headgear on your head. Anyway, God is not going to kill you on your way to prayer and leave your family without an income, is He?

^i live in section 2 in b.b. bangi and honestly the way you wrote was way exaggerated.
yes there are kids riding bikes and people who don't wear helmets, but that's because they lived in a small town actually.
bandar baru bangi is a suburb, not to be confused with a city such as kuala lumpur.
they don't ride the bike fast, really.
and that kid, he was riding a honda cup or something like that right?
sheesh.

It must be heartbreaking for a devoted conservationist to see that kind of behaviour. And we're not immune from it even in the Land of Oz. There will always, at all times and in all places, be opportunists who do whatever they can get away with.

Here - and, I think, in all countries with an Anglo-Saxon heritage - we have a history and tradition of lobbying, which has resulted in more education in and public awareness of laws on road safety and conservation - and on stricter penalties for their contravention. Maybe that still needs to get going in some parts of the world.

Somewhere between the lines of this heartfelt rant I think I smell another novel brewing.

It has always been true that people find the hard things easier to swallow if they're coated in a sugar layer of fiction - but the hard truths get told anyway, and perhaps they're more easily absorbed for being "disguised" - and people find their attitudes changing even without quite realising why...
