I know exactly what you mean about being allergic to wasps – I’m allergic to European Wasps and will run a mile if I see one. Thank goodness I’ve not seen them yet in Cairns (yep, it’s me, DM).

When I turned allergic it wasn’t with a refined whacking great lump on my foot (I’d trodden on one) but with a distinct lack of breathing that had my french pen-friend in hysterics and my mum racing me down to the local doctor for an antihistamine shot.

Here screens are usually limited to bedrooms. I have never found a house here that uses screens the way we do in Australia - on all doors and windows throughout the house. It is not that attractive, for a start...

Ah, I could have done with a dryer though, back at the time of the KL flood back in the 70s. It rained nonstop for 7 days and I had a small baby. Disposable nappies (diapers) were hard to get and way beyond our budget...so the whole house was festooned with wet washing.

I remember having to escort the cat outside with an umbrella to do its business!

Um.. I live in KL, Malaysia. And there are screens in the windows. I also have a dryer. 🙂
