A review is only one person’s opinion, and just as we shouldn’t be too devastated by a single bad review, we shouldn’t be too hyped by a good one, either.

I do believe in reading all reviews, though, and trying to learn from what is said. After all, a reviewer is part of a reader’s audience and it is disingenuous of a writer to say that what people people think doesn’t matter, or that “Oh, I just write to please myself.”

I have an audience, and I want to please them as much as I please myself, without compromising my integrity as a writer. I guess in the long run, it’s all a matter of balance and not taking anything too personally.
